Though previously it was a gravel factory, The Sonoma County Regional Park organization bought this property and renamed it Steelhead Beach.

1921 to 1953, this bend in the river was the site of the Mirabel Gravel Company. Apparently gravel from here was used in the construction of the Golden Gate Bridge. The large concrete structure shown in the photo, which is still there in 2018, was part of that operation.

A lawsuit against it was brought in 1927 saying it was eroding the land. In time, it was realized that the plant muddied the water and was affecting the recreational pleasures of the river. The plant was forced to close.
